    1944 JD A value

44 should have slant dash and no Roll-o-matic. I suspect one could switch to a later pedestal.

    Slant dash A Brakes

alabamafrog, I agree with your advice, but would would want the shaft to be vertical, so when it strikes the wood, the shaft drives the drum off from the shoes. I have started with a drop of 6" and then moved to greater heights. If it jams, one could drop it drop drum down and then go back to...

    clutch spline welding?

The metal in your busted tape measure is a lot harder than the putty (aluminum) that goes into soda cans. I would prefer to strip the paint first.

JD 320 for sale in classified ads

He is out of the country right now, and is out of the country most of the time, but he can deliver it in five days, and will presumably wait around for another seven days in case you want to return it???????????? I will give odds that English is not his native language. I would also guess it...

Fan Hitting Shroud on an A

Are you sure it is hitting the shroud? Unless you can see where metal-metal contact is occuring, I would suggest a different problem. Sounds like one I had - When I first heard it, I thought the fan was trying to gnaw its way through the radiator. It turned out that the fan clutch facing had...

    Tiny Tach for 2 cyl.

I have one some place. Works good, but I think you have to divide by 2. I havn't looked at it for a while. I think I got it from Northern Hydralics.

    John Deere A governor

I agree. Our '47 did that occasionally from new. In retrospect, I'm sure it was the cotter pin at the carb. It didn't happen often but usually when the load was suddenly removed during a hard Pull. I.e. When I missed the trip on the CC field cultivator until I got well into the field road at...

Raked some hay with the A (pics)

The reversed position as per the last photo above was required for the one and two row mounted corn pickers, 1xx, 2xx. I'm guessing that most were shipped with the other position in our part of the country.

    hydrogen power

I'm assuming you are talking about the electrolysis apparatus that feed the oxygen-hydrogen mixture to the engine. In automobiles, it improves the mileage for the true believer, i.e. those that adjust their driving habits enough to increase mileage. Even if the mixture was some magic elixor...

The last A I did, I went to Deere. If I recall it was not a common size. I don't think it was cheap, but it was available.

    24T Baler on a 1956 420 Standard

Didn't the 24 T have an overunning clutch? I was under the impression that the 14 T did, but I left the farm, but for sporatic visits 50+ years ago?

    Cast wheels moving

400 ft-lbs sounds excessive to me. It took me 205 to crack the flywheel bolts loose after 60 years on an A. If it walks on the axle it is loose. I always found the 18" box end that came with the tractor to be enough to tighten sufficiently.

    LA LI engine price

Where are you located? Personally, I hate to see a nice engine parted to provide parts for an incomplete and frozen refugee from a fence row. If an engine is stored inside, complete, reasonably straight sheet metal, and free turning, then your and the buyers definition of excellent have a good...

    R on belt dyno! vid

Well-done video. I needed the therapy, it is still snowing in April. Also if the H.S. Teacher (Hawley?) running the prony brake could send me an E-Mail I would appreciate it. If you haven"t been to this show, make plans now. You can easily spend two days and not see everything.

    Hey craig nystrom

What is missing from the above illustration is the apparatus leading to the clutch lever. As the spring in the hitch is compressed, a chain releases the clutch.
