Tiny Tach for 2 cyl.

Been reading about a product called a "Tiny Tach", and wondering if anyone has tried one on a 2 cyl. JD. Just wrap a lead around the plug wire, and it reads RPMs, and acts as an hour meter. Has a battery, (non replaceable), that should last 5 years.

I have one some place. Works good, but I think you have to divide by 2. I havn't looked at it for a while. I think I got it from Northern Hydralics.

As you probably already know, they make several models for various applications.
I have two little old AC tractors with Tinytachs installed. The issue I had was way too much "noise"- or whatever the proper term would be. I would get wild readings from voltage in the ign. system. I was directed by their tech. to cut the solid wire as short as possible, wrap it only once around the plug wire, as far away as possible from the ign. system.(Which in my case was handily #4, closest to where I mounted the tach) One worked OK right away, the other acted up occasionally, but has since straightened out! I have no idea why.
The tech was good enough to work with me, and said they will install added resistance(for an added fee) if necessary.
I use both of these tractors for pto work and appreciate being able to have some reference for being in the right rpm range. The old AC governors are quick, but not nearly as precise in holding rpm as say a newer diesel.
