03 dodge cummins rough idle

I have an 03 Dodge with the 24valve common rail fuel injection. Last nite when I started the truck after dropping off the girlfriend, I noticed the truck was idling little rough. None of the warning lights came on and it seemed to be just fine above 1000rpm. Cruising down the road it sounded fine and never acted like it was lacking power. I had it serviced by the dealership about 4,000mi ago and was told everything was looking good. Before I take it in and have them look at it, does anyone have ideas on what to check? I thought it might be the fuel filter, that hasn't been changed for 10,000mi or so, but no light indicating plugged filter or water in the filter.

I like Allan's answer...

Seriously, a buddy of mine has one and it does the same thing. I've always thought it was just some hiccup in the ECM. I don't know why it is they can build a 600 HP N14 that runs seemlessly without a problem but they can't sort out the little problems in a 'B'.
His has done that since new. It's annoying but it works fine in every other way. Dunno.

Well, the thing is:

Can remember on many occasions after droppin' off the eyecatch, I'd spit, sputter and have a ringin in the ears for a time myself. :>)

I think the truck just got the hots for your girlfriend. Give her another ride in the truck and your problems will be gone. Haha.

Ahhh.... now the story comes forth... 'Course the spittin' and sputterin' would depend on the eyecatch too! The better the catch, the less the sputterin, and then there's the coyotes...

Rich,I did see a PCM update re-flash for a misfire.Better take it to the dealer.

Any more info on the g-friend would still be helpful.LOL ~brad

The gf has been in the truck quite a few times and this was the first time the truck has acted up like this, never did this with the past seat covers...must be a sign. LOL Here's the info you all needed...she's allmost year older than me, nurse, not to hard on the eyes, and the best parts (no, not those parts)...she grew up on a farm and has no problem getting dirty! I'm going OTR here in couple months and she's fine with that seeing how we only see each other on the weekends now. Not sure but I might have a keeper.

Back to other girl in my life....it has allways seemed to have a little fluctuation in the idle, you can watch the tach move about 100rpm. Last nite it sounded like it was jumping about 300rpm at idle but the tach was still as can be. I'm going to change the fuel filter tomorrow and see if that helps. If not, I'll take it to the guys that (hopefully) know what they're doing. Thanks for the help guys.
