1/16 scale 8358 plow.

Got the hydraulic cylinders built. They work great. The plow raises and lowers.
I plan on dissembling it and starting painting process tomorrow.

What's the story on the coulters? Did you build those also? I love the whole plow but the cylinder and coulters really neat. Paul

Is that red granite from a local source? I know your neighborhood has blue and green, but red is a Texas color.

The colters are scratch built also. Disc blades rough cut with dremmal cut-off wheel from sheet stock, and made round on side of bench grinder wheel. Shanks are #10 copper wire bent to shape in small vise. Springs are threaded ends of 4-40 screws, and all the little pieces soldered together onto an 1/8" OD piece of brass tubing so they can swivel. When all painted I will glue the shanks into the little tube brackets soldered to the beams.

That is Canadian Rose Granite. We also have some big red granite bolders (earth eggs) that the glacier left around here. What you see in the pic., a 12x12" polished slabs left over from a remodel job that I did years back. That one works great as a fireproof work surface on my wooden work bench to protect the bench and hold pieces straight and flat with "helping hands" clamps while soldering.

Loren, I didn?t think I had seen many posts by you on T. Talk, I see you have been hiding out down here on the Case board keeping the natives entertained with some miniature fabrication. Looks like a great job as usual. Please tell me the hydraulic cylinder only looks real and does not actuate with some type of fluid. Hope you had a Merry Christmas and looking forward to more envy over your posts in the New Year. Rick

Thanks a ton for posting photos of your progress! I've been checking every night for a fresh post. I have been wanting to build toys since about the forth grade and had neither skills nor tools to do it. Best I could do was a flat rack for my little John Deere running gear, and a set of miniature feed bags (filled with rice) that I sewed up on my mom's old sewing machine. Later, I talked my older cousin out of his Erector Set when he became more interested in cars and girls. Bought more nuts and bolts at the local hardware and made a few more metal parts that didn't come in the kit. The best part was the Erector set came with a small electric motor with a little gearbox attached that had a shiftable 3 speed gear box. Later, I got interested in cars and then girls, and younger brothers took over my toys....
