1 bottom plow questions.

I wouldn't worry too much about the brace.
As Bruce said, wear parts would be a concern.
Try to figure out what fits it and see if they are available.
It's priced a bit high for my area of Michigan, but things do tend
to be priced a little higher in your area from what I understand.
Here I would expect it to be $125 to $175.

I paid $100 for this one. Made by 'Universal Inc.' if I remember
right. Out of OK City, OK. Missing the coulter wheel, but solid. If
that one is i good shape I would think you would have to be doing
some serious farming to wear it out. Price does seem high. Try
talking him down. Make sure it a Cat. one and not a Cat 0. People
have different ideas about what a compact tractor is.

The type of bottom is called a "scotch bottom".
It is designed for fall plowing, leaving the furrow on edge, rather then inverting it, where the land is left rough through the winter for wind and water erosion. My Dearborn economy book also state the moldboard is soft center laminated steel and cast steel shares.
I would rate it as "not acceptable for garden use."
I however have no experience with this type bottom, and have never seen one in MI
