10-20 oil priming

I have a 29 10-20. I have dropped the oil pan and cleaned the tube and oil jets for the rod oil troughs. After installing the pan and filling with oil I have tried to prime the oil system by cranking the engine with the spark plus out. so far I have not had any luck. Is this possible or is there another option for doing this.
