$100 Farmall H

Old tractors are like stray dogs, once you have a few they start seeking you out for a safe home. Old shop down the road is closing and had this sitting out for the past 10-15 years. Called and asked if we'd give him $100 for it, why yes I will. We don't have any Farmalls so this one will be cool to mess with. No rain cap on the exhaust though so it might just be a heavy yard ornament.

Probably just a parts tractor but you never know. The rear wheel weights are worth more than you paid. I’m thinking there is one on the other side also.

I have gotten stuff in worse shape to turn over and run. He drove it there, was going to restore it for a guy and then had a stroke and there it sits.

You can get readily get sleeves and pistons if it did get water in the exhaust. I will run my camera down in it and see when we get it home.

Awful easy to get more in to one than it's worth. I traded a pickup for a 350 that had been sitting out for a long time like that. Had a lot in to it before it was over. I traded it off on an Oliver. Never would have gotten my money back for what I had in to it if I had just sold it.

Undoubtedly. Unless I really wanted a yard ornament, I'd walk away. Even parting and scrap wouldn't be worth time, fuel, and hassle, though my internal junk streak is still strong.

I do it as a hobby. I am not trying to make money, when a set of rear tires is almost double the value of the tractor if it was in good running shape there is no way you could be in it for any other reason.

I really enjoy taking something that others would give up on and trying to give it a second chance.

Ya, it's a satisfying feeling.

Buying that 350 was just a reminder why you own Olivers. LOL

On a Farmall that’s a guarantee, after 10-15 years she’ll be stuck tighter than a drum. If it isn’t you better take the money from the rear weights and buy lottery tickets!
Our Cases have a weep hole in the low spot of the elbow, sometimes that saves them but not always. Had an SC that was stuck tight and got it loose and its the best running thing we have

40+ years ago, my dad purchased an H that had been sitting out in a field for about 5 years. There was no can on the exhaust. I was fresh out of automotive tech school, so it was my job to overhaul it.
I got a set of domed pistons from Tractor Supply (remember when they sold actual tractor parts? 😎) and got to it. Two pistons had to be knocked out and the sleeves came out with the pistons. The pistons and sleeves were seized together. These engines are dry sleeved, so installing new sleeves was a piece of cake. With a fresh engine and a new rear tire, I really liked this tractor because it had a good road speed. Dad liked it also. He put a buzz saw in the front and a sickle mower in the back of it.
That being said, if you want an H, get one that is currently running. In the end, it will be cheaper.

As-is it is well worth the $100 you paid for it. Only if you can decide if it is worth investing several more $1000s plus your labor to either: get it running; to get it field ready; or to restore it. Do all the tires still hold air? What are your hopes and dreams for this tractor?

Around here ( Eastern Kansas) the belt pulley and light bar is worth more than the weights.
Wonder what makes a light bar for those so desirable? I wouldn’t think they would get bent up to the easy, if something is coming up and bending that I can tell you for certain I don’t want to be the guy in the seat. What county? Grew up in Marshall.
