1010 Jd

Guy down the road is selling his 1010 jd for his son. I am told that it got water down the exhaust pipe. Am told he freed it up, but it needs the head reworked. Has the head pulled off right now. Never owned a jd, and dont know what bucket of worms i might get into buying it. Is the 1010 gas jd a alright tractor if fixed right? sorry for the long post.
What do i need to look for when i go look at it. Sheet metal is good, hdy"s are good, and tires are at least 85%. Any advice would be gratful...

1010 and 2010 engines are unlike any other engine Deere ever built. They are not bad engines though. Main problem is parts availability - especially if a diesel.

1010 and 2010 were the first Deere engines to have siamese wet-sleeves, positive valve seals and Stanadyne rotary injection pumps (in diesels).

I'm working on a 1010 diesel that had water down the exhaust pipe.It has 3 bent rods,you can't compress water.

You're lucky. 1010 diesel is the most common sleeve deck because the 2010 gas engine uses the same.

A 1010 gasser is somewhat do able do able. As it shares many 420/430/440 parts from the clutch on back.
Is the price right ?
The diesel 1010 and diesel 2010 are built with odd ball obsolete or hard to find engine parts.
The entire 2010 chassis is pretty much all odd ball obsolete or hard to find parts.

well he was wanting 1400 for it, but i talked him down to 1000. he had it running but it had a bad miss in it. He pulled the head and the valves were rusted bad on it. He got a good job and decided he would just buy him a new tractor and not mess with this one.
