Hi everyone my name is Alan from Indiana. We just bought 70 acres and it came with a JD 1010. At least I think that's what it is. Put a new battery in and checked fire, no spark. I removed the distributor cap and found a bunch of tiny ants. Didn't have the tools with me to continue. My first JD so I'll probably have questions

Looks like a 1010. How long has it been sitting? How does the gas smell? Old gas? Drain old gas. Replace with new. Clean fuel filter. Drain carb. Clean the distributor. Replace spark plugs, ignition wires, points (adjust), rotor and distributor cap. Check engine oil and coolant. Check antifreeze. It's not a bad little tractor, a little homely but still loveable. Get back with questions. Suggest you get an owners manual and tech manual from John Deere Publications.
