1020 Hydraulic System

My buddy went to look at a Deere 1020 today with a bucket loader and noticed the 3 point hitch was leaking from the pump. Is the loader also operated from the 3 point pump or are there 2 separate pumps. If there is only one is it a big deal to rebuild or replace? Thanks!

IMHO & experience one is ""very brave"" or pardon the expression "gullible" to purchase a JD utilty tractor built between '65-'92 with ""non operating hyd's"".

Too many expensive things can raise it's ugly head before hyd's operate correctly!!!!!!!!!

JD 1020 before serial # 045199 will have 3 hyd pumps. Trans pump supplies oil yo lubricate trans brgs/gears operate hyd pto or hi-lo with remainder of oil sent to frt hyd pump which powers 3 pt,scv & frt end loader control valve. Power steering pump is mounted to RH front of engine.. Tractors after above serial # I posted have no dedicated PS pump due to PS operating from frt pump.

Three point hitch was leaking from the pump ? Could you post an image of that ?
To continue on the topic already raised by Tx Jim . Take the $4000 that was to be used to pay for the 1020 tractor and the $5000 to repair it . Use that $9000 as a down payment for a new JD loader tractor. With the current low interest rates . Your buddy will spend less and have more tractor in 10 years time .
The old crate is at least 49 years elderly .

Why is it you are continually recommending for people to buy new JD tractors when last time I recollected you didn't own a "New JD Tractor"?

Did your wife finally agree to you buying a new tractor?
