1020 load shaft

I am starting to change the seals, etc. on my 1969 1020. I have included a picture of what the situation is right now. As you can see there is a very thin shim/washer on the shaft located right next to the tractor housing. Viewing the tractor housing itself reveals a very distinct wear mark on the housing toward the front of the tractor. I have to guess that additional shims or thicker shims should be placed on the shaft between the tractor housing and the 3 point arm. Are these special shims or can I just fit some appropriate washers there?

The purpose of the washer is to eliminate all side play. I imagine anything of the appropriate thickness would work. The John Deere part
number is R66197 "Thrust Washer". Dimensions are 1.44" OD, .85" ID and .036" thick. I used the Deere part when I replaced the seals on my
301A Industrial tractor. The washers did NOT eliminate ALL the side play. Using one washer was not enough, and using two washers was too much.

I ended up using washers and shims I had laying around to remove as much side to side play on my 1020 when I replaced seals and the load shaft. The less play the better.

Also, when you put in the new teflon seal, put it in a cup of warm water first. It will aid in folding it to get it in. If you haven't done these before buy at least 1 extra teflon seal. I ruined at least one, maybe two, trying to figure out how to get them in.
