I have already purchased and installed a power steering tower
from a different John Deere. My issue is that Im installing the
priority valve that goes under the right side step. There seems
to be a small plug in the trans case. Do I need to knock that out
or leave it in?

Peened in ball seals a pressure bleed off galley that O-ring(item 5) seals when pressure control valve is present. I think ball will be very difficult to drive out & I'll suggest to drill it out with a good bit.

Have you attempted to operate tractor without PCV & with PS installed. Does your tractor has a FEL? If not I would consider operating/leaving tractor without PCV.

The last one I did we took a punch and drove the steel ball inside. It ended up coming out either the screen or drain plug. I have also installed the power steering without the valve and it will work fine. Tom

Damn, I am about to do this exact install on my '66 1020. I didn't know about this ball bearing being in the way. I'm just waiting on the new hydraulic oil lines and I'll have everything for the install. Post back on how you handle it. I would be very interested in a solution.
