The serial numbers were 6 digits. For numbers less than 100000, a zero (0) was used as a place holder. While the 0 is on the tag on your tractor, the 0 may or may not be shown on many printed lists. 061627 is less than 100000 so it is the same as 61627 on a printed list.

I've been following this but the tag on my 1020 doesn't seem to fit the discussed format. The metal tag for serial number located on the right side below the seat clearly reads:

05478T

What am I missing?

You are missing a digit. Look close at the tag. I have seen several that they got the T at least partially under the drive screw holding the tag. Could that last character be a 1 with part of the T hidden under the screw? How about a good picture of the tag?

014501 was the first 1020 Serial number, so where does your missing 0 go in your serial number?

As I posted before; the serial numbers are six digits. If it is a low number (under 100000) they used a 0 at the beginning as a place holder. Sometimes it was stamped on the tractor tag, sometimes it wasn't. Sometimes it appears in serial number lists, sometimes it doesn't.

In your first post you posted "The serial no on my 1020 is 061627t type is t 4r3c I am wondering what year it was made." The 0 ahead of 61627 may not appear on printed lists, as it is used as a place holder. The 1967 serial numbers start with (0)42715, 1968 serial numbers started with (0)65184, so your tractor serial number 061627T is a 1967 built at the Dubuque Tractor Works. Again not all lists print the (0). 61627 is the same as 061627 in a numeric list. A zero at any place other than the very first place would change the value. Hope this explains it.

Strange? My 1020 tractor is SNT4R1C025964T. Perhaps mine was made in '64? While sources say production started 1965.

Welcome to the forums.

Nothing strange here. 1966 serial numbers started at 014682. 1967 serial numbers started at 042715. Your tractor's number of 025964 places it between those two making it a 1966 1020.
