I have purchased a 1030 case tractor with the wide fenders over the year wheels. Does this make it a Western style? Also the full tank has a dent in the middle from the center link. Does anyone have an idea for a repair? The tractor has 18.4 x 38 rear tires and 11.00 x 16 on the front. It really sets up high. The tractor was purchased new from Shattuc Implement in Illinois by my Grandpa. I have it back in my possesion.

Don't know that I've ever seen one without that dent from the center link. I'm not sure that the fenders necessarily make it a western special. Does the front axle wishbone go in front of the axle or behind? Others might chime in on western specials. Glad to hear you kept a family heirloom. Have the same situation with a 1969 model with cab and HEAVY duty rear hubs and front axle. Only tractor grandpa bought brand new.

The front axle makes it a western special or general purpose. If the s/n tag has 1031 it is a GP and a 1032 is a western. I have seen several GP tractors with the wide fenders.

If you really want to fix the tank without using filler, you could do the same thing body shops do. They spot weld a temporary stud to the dent, fasten onto it with a slide hammer, and carefully pull it out. You can then grind the stud off even and use a body hammer to make the surface even more even. This can result in little or no filler being used. Of course with a fuel tank, fire precautions are necessary. Also, If the dent is too large and the metal is already stretched too much this will not work as well and filler would still be necessary.
