1066 front end on 856

So I have a International Farmall 856, year unknown but they all seem the same, and I would like to convert it to have the front end of a 1066. Front end meaning grill, headlights and such. I was wondering if I could just find a 1066 or even order one from online and fabricate it on my 856. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Nope.won work.Not unless you want to do a whole LOT of work.And then you will endup with a hacked up bastardized monstrosity. A 66 is taller,wider and has a different hood profile. If you want a '66',then
buy a '66'. A 966 is about the same hp/class as the 856.

The frame rails are different as the 1066 has pressed rails and the 856 has channel with holes punched in it for the frame. Don't believe the parts will interchange. You could put 06 frontend on it like from a 806or 1206. The 66 front axle is not as good as the ones under the 0656 series in my opinion since they have more parts to the steering with that stupid cylinder to deal with for wear. Just have the arm out of the front bolster with only the rack in there to seal up. couple o-rings and done.

Thinking a little bit out of the box here, if you want the "66 series look" without massive amounts of modification, look for a 666 or 686 or Hydro 70 or Hydro 86 radiator support and grille.

The 666/686 has the same width and round hood profile as an 856. Your only fabrication challenge will be in figuring out how to make up the roughly 2" height difference, as the 666/686 hoods sit 2" closer to the frame rails compared to the 856.

Finding a good complete radiator support and grille pieces for a 666 or 686 may be the real challenge. Not many were made, so not many in the salvage yards, and the ones that are there tend to have already been picked over for anything good, like the grille pieces...

Forgot to say.. Everything is different from the clutch houseing foreward. No parts will interchange.
