I tried adjusting the c2 retard screw but there was no change so I pulled the c4 spool out which was sticky & cleaned & lubed it w/new oil. Some one had cut out a notch next to the floor cover to remove the bolt which holds the shift linkage down to get a socket on that bolt. By removing the bolt I could pull the spool out. Tractor shifts smooth now but there is still a little lurch when cold but it quickly goes away after a short time. Maybe that spool caused problems before. Was going to take the c2 spool out but I would have had to move the shift linkage out of the way to get a socket on the cap. There's a little more to take apart than just the the bolt to move the linkage. An open end wrench wouldn't break the cap free. Didn't have the time so maybe another time. For now things seem good. If I need more help I'll be back here asking more questions. Thanks for your continuing help & advice.
