110 won't start

I have a 1966 john deere 110. It has good spark. when I turn it over it spins real fast but doesn't seem to have much compression. I'm a novice and need a little guidance on where to begin. thanks marc

Had one one time while working at a JD service shop. Customer stated was getting fuel and had good spark but would not start, I went out and spun the flywheel by hand with no resistance, had a broked connecting rod. No compression, and certainly would not run.

Pull the cylinder head and look for a stuck valve. Tap the valve lightly to see if it will close then crank over the engine to make it will open and close. Squirt some engine oil around stems on both valves and crank over the engine. Hal

took the plug out and sprayed pb in spark plug hole. I can see the one valve open and closing on the front and right of the hole. If the connecting rod is busted would I still have the valves going up and down? I'm very green in mechanics sorry for what is probable a stupid question. whats my next step? thanks so much again

Pull the head then you can see if a valve is stuck. If the valves open and close ok, see if the piston is moving. Hal

Once you have the head off you check your valves and if they're not stuck and the piston moves your cylinder may be worn along with the piston rings. Use your fingernail to see if the top of the cylinder has a ridge from the cylinder being worn. Hal

Valves will still work, crank it over with the plug out for awhile and see if anything comes out the plug hole, watch out for your eyes. Then put your finger over the plug hole to see if its got compression.

took plug out and turned it over. nothing came out of hole after I turned it over. Also no compression when finger placed over hole. everything spins real freely.
