1105 massey

Made a deal and got a 1105 yesterday. Guy
that has it parked it when he got a skid
as he could no longer get into the
tractor. It was used at a feed store to
load hay. I will need a couple batteries
and see if it will start. Been sitting
since 2016 or so. He said it does smoke
when it is running, thinking it may clear
up some with actually working it as it
probably just idled around the loading
hay.

The MF 1105 always smoked, make some turbo and injection pump changes and smoke will clear up, and power can go up too. The stock injection pump has 7.5 MM plungers, and pump was nearly maxed out on fuel delivery. Turbo was too small, only had 6-7 PSI boost pressure. I reworked two 1105s years ago for my brother and I, repaired the pumps with 9 MM heads, and changed the turbo compressor wheel/housing to get the boost higher. Both tractors ended up with more power and NO smoke under load.

Are the turbos for the 1105 and 1135 the same? I see that they are sold as the same turbo for replacement purposes. Don't know if it just an upgraded turbo that works for both. Is there a gain in turbo with an 1135? How much boost am I trying to get to without engine issues?

Yes they both came with the same turbo. The 1135 has a exta oil hole on connecting rod. The injection pump on the 1135 allows more fuel. The 1105 inj pump can be modified to a 1135 by a tech. My 1105 has been running at 135hp since the early 80's and had no problems with the Xtra hp.just by reworking the ink pump.

The 1135 has a larger turbo than the 1105 came with. The 1135 had a 10 MM injection pump for much more fuel capacity than the 1105 had, which came nearly maxed out when new. The 1105 came with a mild 6-8 PSI turbo, the 1135 stock is 12-14 PSI. The 1130 and early 1135 came with Holset turbo, the late 1135 had a Garret Airesearch turbo. The early 1135 CAV DPA pump had no advance, while the late pumps had a speed advance.

I'm sure you are correct Diesel tech, but changes were made on those tractors in the later built ones in the rear ends and I think the late ones had the same turbo on the 1105 -1135. The LATE 1105-1135 had some bigger rear end gears than even the 1130 according to the parts book. This may not show up in online parts books because they tend to show replacement parts. Looking at the old paper parts books as they changed over the years shows this. I would not say the 1130 was under built, but they did beef up a few rear end gears over the years according to my research. I always figure late production models of anything have improvements over early production and sometime parts are not all the same for entire series compared to late production even though replacement numbers are the same.
