1175 on snowblower?

I have an uncle with an 1175 on a 8foot blower- turns short-power to spare- good on fuel an all around great tractor.

If you got the 24" of snow like they just got in the Lake Ontario Snow Belt Region of NYS, reverse on the 1175 would be too fast.

Actually, an 1175 is about the best there is for a 70 series Case. But what you really want is a 7100, 7200 or 8900 series Magnum with an 18 speed full power shift. I'm guessing low reverse is about 1.0 to 1.5 mph.
I have a 8920 on a 9 foot blower and I still slip the clutch a lot more than I want to.

Here are some 70 series numbers for comparison.
These are all the reverse speeds.

470 hi/lo 8 speed....3.1 & 5.0
570 hi/lo 8 speed....3.3 & 5.3
7,8,9 & 1070 hi/lo 8 speed....2.4 & 7.5
7,8,9 & 1070 12 spd pwr shift....3.1, 5.0, 7.7 & 17.0
1170 hi/lo 8 speed....2.8 & 8.0
1175 hi/lo 8 speed....2.2 & ?
1270/1370 12 spd pwr shift....3.2, 5.6, 8.4 & 4th range blocked for your safety.

So as you can see the 1175 has the slowest of all reverse speeds of any 70 series tractor.
Case always set the reverse speed closer to second gear forward than first gear forward with the idea most people want a quicker reverse for loader work. Not much other farming operations done in reverse other than hooking up implements and you slip the clutch for that anyway.

I use my 970 8 speed on my snow blower and love it. I HATE the 2090 with the power shift because reverse is fast and forward is slow. With my blower I can handle 24" in low reverse but it does make smoke. Fourth gear moving forward works fine if you are not in a big hurry. NEVER use high reverse when the snow is light and slip the clutch to save time. Replacing the clutch does not save time.

Because of higher ground speeds needed for spraying, I'd think a power shift tractor would be better for pulling a sprayer but I have no experience with one. Just my guess.
The torque of a CASE engine may get you up to speed without shifting but I don't know.

Here's what the book says on wheel spacing.

Brad, the 1170/1175 is a torque monster!, here is a speed chart for a 1170 starting out in 6th would be no problem at all and 7th if you need that much speed could be done as well

Hey Tom, I suspected as much but I've never pulled a sprayer. But I do know that an IH 2+2 is totally worthless on a grain cart so I suspected a sprayer would be a similar load. Sometimes hard to get going if you can't shift.
I grew up on Case but I worked for a neighbor in the 80s that had IH 2+2s. 33, 35 AND 3788s. The 3788 was the worst. High idle was 2700rpm. Not a misprint. High idle was 2700rpm. Under heavy tillage, if you pulled it under 2550, you'd lose all the torque and the exhaust gas temp light was your constant companion along with TA shifting, waiting for the EGT to go down. Some days I'd almost wanted to cry as I wished I was back on a real tractor. Another thing I hated with a passion was fighting the hydraulic hook ups. If an implement hose simply warmed up in the sun, it was too much pressure and you couldn't plug it into the tractor without first pounding the tip on the drawbar to relieve the pressure and spray your pant legs with oil. Then there's the goofy levers to lock them in. Case was ten years ahead if IH on their ISO couplers.
Sorry for going on so...brought back bad memories. Ha Ha Ha But serious, what a piece of s--t.

Brad, I know what you mean about IH high RPM's, we had a 1586 here for a while, 2780 no load!! after replacing axle bearing and transmission bearings and two T/A's I turned down the rpms to 2450 no load it lasted much better at that, we pulled equipment with it that we used a 1030 for back in the day except for the 6-18" semi-mount "400" series plow, it said it all on the serial tag "Do Not Overload" it meant it, we did put 3500hrs on it though but I was glad to see it leave, did you get a e-mail from me?

Nobody in our area likes them real well for spraying once the corn gets up some. The planetaries tend to push on the next row pretty hard if you aren't perfectly centered in a 30 inch row. Probably no problem at all in 36 or 38s

Yes I did, and thanks a bunch. I was just thinking about getting back to you on it. I think that frame would make a good implement great again.
I just got to figure out how to get it closer to home. I think I have a line on a second machine but I have yet to see it. Maybe I will need two frames at that! Until I get a look at it I won't even know if its the same model. I don't think Case varied their design much over the years back then so I'm hoping they're the same.
