1175 trans top cover question

Is the top cover of the trans removable with the cab on. I was in the process of cleaning out the bottom of the transmission case before I reinstalled the rear cover and found the 1st-2nd interlock laying under the ring gear. Looked like it had been there a while because it was pretty chewed up. Probably explains why it can get into two gears at one time easily.

You can get it off, without removing the cab. Remove the RH front cab mounting bracket, let the filter canister dangle, and remove the tranny cover bolts. The rear center bolt will be a bit troublesome as it is under the 3pt spool. You will have to prop it up a couple inches and rotate the shifting fingers up out of the shiting basket. To get at the fingers take the stamped steel cover off that the neutral start switch is mounted in. A 3/8" eye bolt screwed in to the trans cover to help lift it, and then you can tilt and slide it out the RH side. I hope the rear tire is set out, and not tight to the cab. Once the cover is off, you can pull the shift basket up out of the access hole in the bcab floorboard.

Loren, you nailed it right down to that pesky bolt under the 3 pt spool. Now I have not slid one of those heavy finger pinchers off for a couple years but your excellent description brought back all the fond memories, lol. Rod.

Yew, it's a real head rush working in there setting in the seat with your head down below your feet. HeHe. I may have to do that on my 770. I have to tighten up the quadrants first and see how it acts then.

Thanks for everyone"s reply. The service manual doesn"t give real world how to"s and tips for the most part. What would have caused the interlock to pop out like it did. Someone shifting it hard or forcing it into gear?
