1190 Glow Plugs

Does anyone know how to cycle the glow plugs on an 1190? In the 6-7 years I've had this tractor, I have yet to figure it out. And I've never found an indicator light or anything to let you know they are working/in use.

I'm assuming that it doesn't have glow plugs, as it's the same motor that is in my David Brown 885. It has what DB called a "Thermostart" in the intake manifold. On my tractor, there is a spot on the ignition, right before the starter engages. You hold the key in that position for 15-20 seconds and it heats the TS and allows a small amount of fuel into the manifold.

Hope this helps!

That sounds vaguely familiar...never really know "where" that spot was for sure. How big of "window" is the sweet spot to make it work?

Similar to an intake grid heater??

On mine, it seems to work anywhere between the first ignition stop (Auxiliary?) and the "START" position.

Sorry, I'm not familiar with and intake grid heater.

The TS is a 1" plug in the middle of the manifold. It's pretty easy to spot once you find it. It has a small "blade" where you attach the "heating" wire.

Most Thermostart units will begin burning fuel at 14-15 seconds, THEN turn the switch to Heat-Start to crank engine over to draw heated intake air in. On my Ferguson Standard 23C I can hear a "poof" at 14 seconds, then I start cranking engine.
