1194 (1990s-ish)

I have what I was told was an 1984-Case 1194 and was told by a mechanic is a 1994 - 1194 (who knows really!). It has had cooling issues in the cooling system that were solved in the main by pulling less heavy stuff and cleaning the radiator finsbut still leaks from somewhere THAT is NOT the problem!
It has been running great for five years and this Spring I seeded my fields with it. The 3 point has become a sometimes 3 point and the up down handle is all floppy. I know I need to go through that entire system as the elevation piston doesnt work and the switch is frozen
Heres the problem: I just got on after running four months ago and it wouldnt start. I thoughtOh! Just put it in neutral and start! But not so fast! The shifter will NOT move. I bumped it with a backhoe to free up inner rust but it is locked in gear. Any opinions? I need this NOW to cut hay!

Try jacking one of the rear wheels up to get the load off the transmission
gears, see if it will shift.

Could be the clutch is rust stuck.

If it is, sometimes blocking the pedal down, driving it around in a high
gear, jamming the brakes, goosing the throttle will break it loose.

Or could be the shift rails are rusted in place. How does the trans oil look?
Crack the drain plug, see if water comes out. If it sat with water in the
case, it will condense up top and cause rust. You may have to take the top
off and loosen everything up.

Just a leanto shed saves a lot of expense on fixing water problems and would probably in most cases by the time this is fixed on a few tractors for one guy would pay for the leanto. I try to keep most things in or if small like a gearbox or electric motors on bin unload augers covered from the weather helps lots even if just over top so water does not get on the top.

I tried nudging it with the backhoe and it wouldnt budge. The shifter is stuck in gear and I cant get it back to the neutral position to start the motor. It would be a bit tricky to start it with short across the starter since it would start rolling immediately. So I have to get the shifter unstuck first and then start it.

This is actually kept in a barn with the exception of the last few months. As luck would have it it has been the wettest months in our areas history! So.point takenits never happened before.
I read elsewhere that I will need to remove the shifter plate and free the gears and change all the fluidspossibly free the clutch. I have tomorrow or have to call a mechanic because the hay crop will not wait! And I cant really afford the mechanic this year.

While this suggestion won't solve your problems, why not figure out exactly what you have, if you need parts or the correct manuals you will need to know that.

According to Tractordata the ''1194'' was made in 1983 and 1984.

They state that the serial number is located ''on the frame, on the right side of the engine''.

Would be worth a look, then you can check the year at http://www.tractordata.com/farm-tractors/000/5/1/517-ji-case-1194.html.
