12 volt conversion with 4 position light switch

I'm switching my farmall m from 6 volts to 12. The old system had a curout relay .Can I use the old 4 position light switch when I convert it to 12 volts? What wires go where on the back of the light switch? I have a one wire alt and I have the wire hooked to + side of ammeter and a wire from there down to starter switch. My ammeter still reads discharge. I have a wire from neg post on ammeter to the light switch and a wire from there to the kill switch.

The wire from the alternator and the wire from the starter switch should be on OPPOSITE posts on the ammeter.

The alternator, ignition switch, and light power should be on one post.

The connection to the starter switch should be on the other post.

Right now, any charging the alternator is doing is bypassing the ammeter and going straight to the battery. It has to go through the ammeter in order for the ammeter to show a charge.

That makes sense so what wires go on positive side of ammeter and what wires go on negative side of ammeter?
