12 volt conversion

I did a 12 volt conversion. I do not have spark at my spark plug now. I check for voltage and I have 12 volt to the positive side of my coil. On the negative side of my coil and at the distributor I have about .22 volts. I did change my coil out to a 12 volt coil. I do have the negative side of the coil connected to the distributor based on a wiring diagram I got. I assume that is right. Any suggestions on what I should do next.

First thing to do is see if the points are opening/ closing. .22 volts could be OK if you were not cranking the engine, and if the points happen to have been closed.

check the action at the points as roadrunner suggested. It is possible the condenser was on its way out and the higher voltage killed it. Without a functioning condenser, you will have the normal current values at rest, but there will be no spark at the plugs.

If youre now at negative ground YES its the coils lil - terminal that wires to the distributor

With ignition on when the points are closed there should be near ZERO volts on the coils - to distributor terminal. If NOT the points may be burned or carboned or pitted or not closing fully CHECK POINTS AND POINTS GAP AND INSURE THEIR FULL CLOSURE and that they open n close fully as engine is cranked over. If burned or pitted badly replace them, if only gray oxide coated clean/buff/polish them as non abrasively as possible while a points file may get her going if they are burned.
