Come this winter Im hoping to change the multiple
wire system alternator on my super a-1 for a one
wire set up. The issue I see with most of the
brackets is the claim that they will not work with
front cultivators, has anyone been able to use one
of these systems with a set of cultivators?

Use a "mini alternator" and modify the existing bracket to keep the alternator tucked close in the the engine.

You may have to have a custom "sleeve" made to allow the use of the OEM "extended hub pulley" so the little alternator will clear the front engine mounting flange, allowing it to be close in and out of the way, or perhaps find a two groove pulley that fits the alternator and use the front groove.

A one wire with a complete rewire is the best way to go. clean, sanitary and reliable. However, if the existing bracketry will not allow an alternator, simply make up some 'new' brackets that will work. BTDT.

I have designed a kit for mounting a mini alternator on the A B C series of tractors that is tucked in so the cultivator brackets will still work for more information go to my website charliesrepair.com If the original belt is replaced with a shorter belt the alternator can be moved in further than what the pictures show.

I put a Denso 1-wire mini alternator on my 49 SA and mounted it using the generator bracket with a small tube spacer. It fit perfectly, is inside the sheet metal, and the belt lined up perfectly. If I recall the alternator is a 35 amp unit.
