1206 check valve

I have a 1206 that isn't running
the way it should. Coming off a
fresh overhaul seems to have a
miss to it . not getting much out
of breather tube so I think
compression is ok. Had the pump
and injectors thru a shop so
thinking they are good want to
check the check valve on the
return fuel line . just wondering
exactly where it is and how one
would check it . Any input would
help thanks

A non contact infrared Temp sensor is a good analysis tool for diesel work. Also while running crack open suspected injection lines to see if any make no difference. Even if there is a solid misfire, the blowby might not be increased. Is there white puffs of exhaust? if none, and still missing, injection or injector issues are likely. Jim

to check the check valve remove the return line, fuel should not leak out but you must be able to blow back into the tank. if the valve was plugged the tractor would stop. it is located right at the bottom of the tank.

The bottom of the tank ? My line goes on the top . only tank drain and fuel line to the filters come out the bottom. Is it in the tank?

well if its running good once warmed up i would not be all that concerned on start up. but a lot of white smoke is not normal. does it slobber when idling? plus it may not even have the check valve if the return is at the top of the tank, as no need for one. so it it running smooth once warmed up? cant be saying its missing going on start up. as the valves might not be done correctly whoever did them. you need your valve protrusion up to spec.

The check valve is in the top of the injection pump. Not in the tank. That is NOT your miss . what is your miss i can not say as i am NOT standing next to the tractor . I have no idea how the valves were done or by WHO , i was not the one that built the engine nor know the person or people who did the injection work . Where i might start looking is at the valve adjustment and run thru them once again . Did you FIT the pistons to each hole or did you just Stuff them in , Did you check for sleeve wrinkling ?? DT 361 is a touchy engine and can become a nightmare for the person not knowing all the quarks . Also recheck pump timing .

Had the head gone over when I over haul engine and know what your talking about on the valves so new valves and seats where they needed them this is the 8th 361-407 I've redone never had this issue before

Yes head was done by and shop with a good rep. New valves.fitted the sleeves at.005 using a bore gage not ribbon fitted. Homes to size with a rush is gone and ball honed for finish.would timing on the pump cause a miss at mid range

I would sure want to check the automatic advance with a window on pump. Then actual static timing. I found a 806 that the marks on flywheel did not agree with the point where piston was at tdc.

That engine had a crankshaft reground and the grinder told me they have to cheat a little sometimes on the journals and that affects tdc point.

How were rods, center to center measurement which affects piston height over block. Just a few thousands low will give you hard start , white smoke that clears on warmup. More things but this is some food for thought.
