1206 long axle

Can anyone tell me what the width is for a 1206 with the long axle?

Also, is there any easy way to shorten the axle?

I had a friend with a 4020 long axle. He used a metal bandsaw to cut them off. He got everything square and level, had the tractor on blocks, then put it in low gear and had the axle turn slowly as the saw cut. You would swear it was from the factory when he was finished...did a perfect job on it.
