1250 engine won't stop

JD 1250 been running great for a long time. Yesterday when done working I pulled the throttle lever back all the way, as usual, to kill the engine and it just kept running. Finally, finally, it stopped. Same thing today. Anyone have an idea what might be causing this?

Check the throttle linkage for excess wear. The more it wears the further the handle needs to be pulled to achieve the same result at the injection pump. The tractor was made in the 1980's so it could be thirty years old so some wear is not a surprise.

Ok, that was the problem! Thanks. As no good deed goes unpunished (grin), and you help me with this? All of a sudden, this issue popped up: tractor running great, i'm just brush hogging away, and the engine begins missing a bit. This might be an hour after beginning work, or sometimes not at all. The engine doesn't die, but seems to get close to dying. It might miss for a couple minutes, or 5, then starts running good again.

Thanks!
