Are those 12volt sprayer pumps fixable or just junk it and replace with a new one. IT was working earlier this spring and a week ago or so I wanted to spray some fence row brush and it would not work motor runs but no product comes out the end of the hose or spray wand. No plugged strainer and the one at the end of the hose in the wand was clear also. Pump is only a few years old not over 10 years

My experience is total replacement, there are more expensive pumps out there that may be rebuildable, but I have never gone that route. And not to lecture, because I'm just as bad, but flushing after use helps, all these herbicides are either acidic or caustic, then draining even in my neck of the woods it gets cold enough to freeze water where I store my spray tank. So I got nobody to blame but myself. I just swap em out. My brother has rebuilt one, in 20 years we've gone through 4

Your description of symptoms is identical to my pump failures

Pumps are easily replaced, just a few bolts. I’ve replaced a couple. You can replace with a better quality pump or just a cheapo.
Edit: I misunderstood the question. I thought you meant the whole sprayer, I see now you specified pump. It depends on the pump. Some sprayers come with rebuildable pumps. Some are just cheap throw aways that cost $30 to replace.

I fixed one for a friend recently, there was a little strip of plastic threaded through several of the valve ports keeping the valves from seating.

I pulled out the strip of plastic and put it back together and it works fine.

I've no clue exactly what the plastic strip was or where it came from.

I guess I'll look at it first. If it is something like the plastic strip or just dirt got in there theniIt'll be fixed for a while. If not then it will be a new pump.

I have taken them apart and cleaned them and had them work fine.

I use 60 psi-2 gpm pumps I buy for around 50 bucks at a local farm store (Atwoods). The only time I had a problem with one was one year a freeze caught me by surprise and it cracked the plastic end where the water existed. I have it on al old riding lawnmower with the 4 gallon back-pack type of tank mounted behind the seat. Really works well and shoots 30' up with the right nozzle.

Did you check for gravity flow into the pump, and remove the output hose and check for flow there? I don't know if they are lift pumps and if so, what specs they have for material and lift capacity.....mine is mounted just below my tank with a hole I added near the bottom of the tank for good gravity flow.

Well it was working earlier this spring and the pump sets about even with the bottom of the tank so with a full tank it should have the water weight to flow into the pump. At the time I was still planting so didn't want to fool with it then. I have drained the tank down to about a gallon left yet so will look at it this week Have cloudiness all week with temps in the 90's and low to mid rains forecast .Good time to look at these things while in the shed out of the sun.

Clean everything, even the pickup tube. Just a little dirt is too much. Mine has a filter in the pump outlet, change it! Mine will lose its prime, especially if the tank volume is low. I can bypass the wand and spray arm so I let the pump run all the time. I have a new pump on hand, but it is plumbed differently than the original and I am going to have to redneck it.

Pulled the pump apart on my Hardi & found the diaphragm was shot. It was way cheaper to replace than getting a whole new pump.

I would have to look to see if it is a Fimco or not. Is there a repair kit or parts available for the Fimco and not for others?
More likely to be a repair kit if it's a brand name unit. If it's some cheap no-name sprayer you bought on sale at the local farm and fleet store, you'll spend more on a repair kit than a whole new pump or maybe a whole new sprayer. Our local Runnings (farm fleet type store) had 15 gallon sprayers on a pallet in the middle of the aisle, on sale for $49.99. Heck I paid $69.99 at Harbor Freight about 10 years ago and thought I got a steal of a deal...

I had 4 Fimco pumps in a 2 year period. They kept sending me pumps and they kept going south!!! I finally bought one of these. That was 7 years ago and it has been GREAT!!!!! I took it and installed it on my old tank and built the connections myself. It runs all the time at 90 psi and doesn't pulse like the Fimco do. Fimco has a piezoelectric crystal in them to turn on and off the pump which is a lot of times fails. Also the pump is a cheap thing!!! This one you shut off the pump when you don't need to spray but it bypasses when running all the time which is fine. Also The Shurflo rep told me to run antifreeze through it in the fall when done with it to lube the pump, seals and such and get rid of any water that causes a lot of the problems.

I pulled the pump apart and it had some rust and a flake in it. Washed it out reassembled and then with a hose from the well to the inlet side water would flow through the pump and when turned on the stream would extend out about 3 feet more than when the pump was off with no nozzle just the outlet end of the hose. So I think it is fixed for now. Will try it out with just a couple gallon then if good may fill up more. It is a remco pump had a manufacture date on it of about 8or 10 years ago so not a new one by any means. And thanks guys for the help, experiences, and information.
