130 starter solenoid

Hi!

I've got a 130 that has "unique" electrics. 2 owners ago, at least, made it a key start and attached a plastic solenoid the starter. The solenoid, I believe, has always given me problems. When it starts it runs like a champ. Often I think only get a click from the solenoid. Was wondering if anyone could suggest a replacement for what I currently have?

Looks like it wouldn't hurt to clean and "brighten" and tighten the connections at the solenoid and starter, that just might solve your "intermittent" problem.

Is this 6 Volts, 12 Volts, or a 12 Volt conversion?

If 12 Volt, NAPA #MPE ST420SB is a similar solenoid. If no NAPA nearby your favorite auto parts store should be able to cross that number to the brand they carry.

What the farmall originally had was a good setup. It was a push button that bridged the cable to the starter
It was fussy about having the linkage lined up ( ask me how I know) but was simple and effective.
It works well on my A.

It's a 12V conversion that wasn't done very well.
If I leave the battery connected, when not running, it's dead in 2hrs.

Thinking that come summer I'll re-wire it.

When it does start I use it as my snow plow and what a great job it does with that!

What type of alternator does it have?? If it is the common Delco 10si good chance the excite wire is hooked up direct to the battery which can also let the smoke out of the alternator due to over heating when not running

I believe that's it. Three wire Delco.

I re-rewired a couple of cubs with the 1 wire alternator and it works really slick. Can't remember the brand but they're small and fit under the cub hood

Any idea what I'm talking about and if it's got enough oomph for the 130?

If it is a 3 wire you have the charge wire. The the plug is marked #1 and #2. The #2 wire goes to the charge stud. The #1 wire is the excite wire which should be hooked to the ignition side of the switch the same side as the coil. My self I hook it to the coil the ignition side to save wire. But you need a diode or resister or light bulb in line or you cannot shut the engine off due to back feed
