134 carb conversion to 172

I just replaced my 134 cu in engine on my old ford with a 172 cu in engine. All went quite well. Now it is up and running, I notice that my carb is starting to ice up.

What would need to be done to my old OEM carb to convert it from a 134 to be used on the 172 engine so it does not have a tendency to ice up? (and to take advantage of all those extra cubic inches)

The 172 has larger manifolds, you can put the 172 carb onto that larger manifold. Or while you are at it really go big and get an 801 manifold and carburetor.

I have the manifold that is listed in the parts section as fitting both the 134 and 172 engine. The original was cracked.

So back to the question, can the 134 carb be retrofitted with a 172 kit to give it the larger Venturi and larger jets?

I answered according to your original post: (and to take advantage of all those extra cubic inches) I doubt that there is a "kit" to convert a 134 carb to 172. Even if there was, you are restricting air flow even if it was possible to somehow shoehorn an oversized Venturi into a carburetor.

The venturi effect will always create icing in high humidity. And a carb must have the venturi to suck fuel into the air stream.

Normal to ice on exterior when humidity is high.
