Be careful what you buy at Walmart. Using the cheapest hydraulic fluid you can find may not end well. Make sure the can says that it's compatible with Ford 134D or JD Hy-gard or words to that effect.

I would highly recommend Valvoline VV813 if you won't use the New Holland 134D.
You get what you pay for and if you buy cheap, you get cheap.

Bern, Can I use JD Hy-Guard in my Ford 6000 transmission and hydraulics? I have all the oil drained now, replacing the transmission clutch plate.

I will 2nd and 3rd the motion of you get what you pay for!! Another thing to keep in mind is with a 5000 you also have wet brakes and I have heard many horror stories about cheap oil that ended up destroying the brake disks and the debris getting into the hydraulics and really making a mess!! Just my 2 cents worth!! Greg NE

PTO clutch is in there as well and the same thing can happen to the clutch material.

Were not all the horror stories about john deere brakes coming apart and stopping up the hydraulic filters? Ford seemed to have used a better material for their brakes.

Hy-Guard is the J20C spec which is the standard reference around here. That spec covers currently produced machines with all the whistles and bells. You'll find that and 134D specks on the same container if Ford specs are listed too,...which are usually part of the rap sheet on most premium oil container labels.....along with Kabota UTD fluid. Premium oils are not cheap, regardless of the processor/seller.

Harvest King is a long time, Northern mfgr. of farm related products and the local Atwoods farm store has skids of their premium oil for $60 a 5 gallon tub where skids of their pre 1988 THD oil (134 A,B ) are running $40.........when most other store HD Diesel oil shelves are empty...at least were the last time I was in town.
