135 . STUCK IN REVERSE

My 135 was driven then parked .Next start up it was stuck in reverse .. Minimal movement pulling up and trying to select . Low range selector moves as it should.. ???

Hello I hope Oli is correct, welcome to YT. I see you are
a new user so maybe what JD is saying is a little
confusing to you. There is also a Harry Ferguson topic
section on here, what he is telling you is that a similar
problem was discussed under that topic section last
week. I believe a little prying through the transmission
oil fill can move the shifting fork and rail back into the
proper position. Here is a link to that discussion. The
photos in the other post are labeled to show which
shifter moves what gears to help you determine what
shifter needs pried into the neutral position.

This issue happened with my MF 35. From what I've researched, either the shifter spring may have broken or (more likely), it's just jammed. You can try using a pry bar through the fill hole on the left side of the shifter to push the shuttles back and forth to un-jam it. You can also move the large gear back and forth to get first and reverse. That's what I did to back mine off the trailer.

I wound up taking off the trans cover (and the dash and steering column). The spring was fine, and I had just jammed it good. Re-assemble and it's back to working fine. The whole thing took maybe two hours start to finish. You'll probably need a three jaw puller to get the steering wheel off.

Note: this may be a good time to flush the trans fluid since you have access to it. It also takes 8 gallons of fluid, so be prepared for that.

Just shift slowly and gently - to steal a random quote I found online, it isn't a Hurst and it isn't a race car, but a 50+ year old piece of machinery.

Bit of a newbie here, but I recently had the same problem, albeit mine was stuck in 3rd. Based on advice from another forum online, I was able to access the shifter forks through the transmission fill hole, and easily slide the out of position shifter fork back into position using a screwdriver. Took about 10 seconds. I was told it would be the only fork that can be easily moved, either fore or aft. It slid approximately 1 inch, then everything shifted as normal. I now am very careful and deliberate when shifting gears. Hope this helps, and good luck.

Mine got stuck a couple times until I finally learned to never try to force it in a gear. If it doesn't want to go, double clutch it and start over. Always shift it very gently. After I figured that out it has never stuck on me again.

If yours does get stuck, do as SteveM said and go in through the fill plug and move the gears. You will know when you get it back in the right place when you can move the shift lever side to side again like in neutral.

I've had my 135 get stuck in gear a few times and I've always been successful in getting it unstuck by using the prybar through the filler hole method. On the left side, you'll see the largest gear either fully forward, or rearward. Pry it in the opposite direction - you'll know when it moves. As others have stated, don't get in a hurry shifting and try to apply downward pressure to the shaft.
