140 HI CLEAR 6or 12 volt?

Wondering a couple things about my 140 HI CLEAR.
Not for sure if it is a 1958? Serial # 1314-JHC?

What year did things switch over to 12 volt? and how can you tell for sure. Since I"ve had the tractor I"ve had a 6 volt battery in it and it is always hard to start, turns over real slow, I know the battery is weak from sitting all winter and will probably put a new one in but wanted to make sure I put the right one in.

my dad has one of first 140 hi clears and that's a 6 volt tractor I think the started in early 60s with the 12 volts I had a 61 cub that had it you can use a 12 volt with 6 volt starter they can take it would have to change the coil and some other stuff

You may not have a good ground, Your cables may need replacing and make sure they are the right cables for 6 volt system.
