1466 questions

I recently bought a non-running 1466 as a project and is my first tractor of my own. We have a 766 but there are quite a few differences between them and i'm trying to figure out some of the original's of this 1466. It currently has different rears on it, the right has the 12 hole center wedge lock and the left has a 6 hole center wedge lock, i'm guessing one got cracked and replaced with what was available but which would have been original? The tractor doesn't currently have any batteries in it but it the cables are set up for 2 12 volt batteries as opposed to the dual 6 volts. is this beacause it used to have a cab maybe? Thanks in advance I know i'll have more questions to come, Allen

Finding 12 volt batteries is probably easier. I get Walmart's best battery. They have a 3 year free replacement if they fail during that time period. I have 3 that are 8 years old hope they all don't fail at the same time. Be sure to keep the receipts. Hal

I have two 1466's. One cab and one open. The 66 series uses the long batteries one on each side. I use two 12 V. As far as the rears, I guess you are talking about the cast centers with the wedge locks? The 1466 is a real power house. It operates the same as your 766, controles, guages shifter all the very same just a larger tractor. My cab 1466 is a 1974 model and the open is a black stripe 1976. I have never seen the long batteries that these tractors use at wal mart but TSC, Rual King, Falders, Napa and other farm stores carrie the batteries. They are around $90.00 each. If your 766 is still orignal should be just like it.

Yea I was talking about the cast rear centers. I know I have seen a lot of 1086's with only the 6 oppenings but most every other tractor i've seen was the 12 opening cast centers and this one has one of each. The 2 12v batteries makes sense to me but our 766 and 806 are both the 2 long 6 volts as opposed to the 12 volts.

They came out with two 6's but a lot of tractors have been changed to two 12's. I have changed both of my 806's, 856 and both 1466's over to two twelve volt. As for the cast centers, I think the 86 series had six openings and the late 66 series also. My 1486 and 1976 model 1466 has the six hole openings but my 74 model has the twelve hole openings. I am guessing it goes by the year the tractors came out that they changed (around 1975-76) the designed of the centers.
