1470 tractor

I was looking for a set of 18.4x34 tires when I came across a 1470 that the guy is looking to sell,kind of wants the nearly new tires paid for. The engine was O.Hed not long ago but is loosing oil pressure. Are there some parts that would be worth salvaging off this type of tractor, or should it go to the shredder? He claims the wreckers don't want to give him enough to cover the tire value. I'm not very familiar with these pre-power shift tractors to make a call on it. I have not seen it, just talked to him on the phone, it is about 3.5 hr drive from me ( by truck,not tractor). Sort of feel like buying the thing and then figure out what to do with it.

Buy it for the rubber. If nothing else the engine has to be worth something. Does it have pto?

I've seen good running 1470 tractors sell under $3000.00, so one with engine issues wouldn't be worth much. There are a few equipment dealers out there asking higer, but I don't see them selling anything either. It seems that most were bareback, so the three point and PTO parts are probably the most valuble. The engine parts would also have value since the 504 was used in many other tractors. I've been watching for a nice 1470 with a factory cab, and I will admit there seems to be more 1470 tractors still out there than I thought.
