1475 gehl update

I finally got to work on my baler last night after work. I checked the oil level rrlund and I found it to be slightly over full which I believe is where it has been since 2003 when we bought the baler so I'm
guessing that wasn't the problem. I was
hoping that was it since it's an easy fix.
However what I did find was that the packing roll was about 4 inches above the lower 8 inch roll and the manual calls for 1/4 inch. The springs were pulling the roll high so I loosened The springs and
readjusted everything as the manual
describes. Now if it quits raining here in
pa I will cut some more hay and try it out and let you guys know if it works any better. I was hoping one of you guys with more gehl experience could chime in on the
packing roll adjustment and tell me if you
think that was my problem. I also want to
thank everyone for taking the time to read
about my problem and offering ideas and
suggestions which I will keep in mind.

Hopefully that does it for you. In 40 years,I never had to adjust one of those. To be honest,I guess I just thought as long as the springs weren't broken,it was OK. I didn't know there was any adjustment.

Sure makes sense that would cause trouble. If it's not gripping it with both rolls to push it in the chamber,I don't suppose you'd get enough in there to roll. That could let hay up in front of the starter fingers too and cause the trouble I had in that rank hay. I guess I'd better check mine.

It helped me alot but I'm still having problems plugging. I adjusted the wind guard some and that helped a little.I think now maybe my air pressure is too low since when it plugs I noticed the belts slipping some. Either this baler will kill me or I'll kill it. I've decided I'm going to figure it out some how.
