1494 Case (David Brown)

I ended up with a 1983 Case 1494 (no cab) with an older case loader mounted on it. It has around 3000 hours on it.

In the three years I have had it, I just don't really like it. The engine runs strong, the power-shift works great, nice beefy front axle and front end components . . . but I just haven't taken to it. ... I absolutely hate the stupid pto clutch !!! ... And the controls for the hydraulic remotes and three point hitch are pretty lame.

I was raised on International Harvesters and want to sell the 1494 and get an IH 684, 784, 884 or a row-crop 686. In my opinion, they seem to be much handier, better designed tractors.

Are there any fans of 1494's out there ? If so, please let me know of any redeeming qualities in these tractors that maybe I'm missing !!

Also, I want to sell it next spring. Anyone interested in it, let me know !

As you can tell, it is a nice, straight, clean tractor (I just rather have an International Harvester !)

As far as specs, I know from a Tractor Data book the 1494 is rated at 75 pto horsepower. I think it was never tested at Nebraska, but the 1490 which was the same tractor, just the previous older model was actually tested at something like 72.8 pto horses. The engine is 214 cubic inches and has a turbo. David Brown used this same engine on their 50 and 60 horse tractors as well. Like I say, it is real "peppy" and runs great, I pulled a 3 bottom plow quite easily. It is good on fuel too.
