1500d Brakes

Hi All,
On my 1500d, I have a slight fluid leak at the right break cam lever, down in front of the rear axle. I see from the parts description that there is an o-ring that goes on the stem of the break cam. My question is do i have to drain the trans-hydro fluid to replace these o-rings. reading the tech on how to replace brake pads there is no mention of draining fluid?

I'm wondering if there should be fluid in there. I don't much think so unless your shaft seals are leaking. To answer the question tho, I don't think you have to drain the fluid.

I think you are correct....there shouldnt be oil in with the brakes.
I have been researching brakes.....I just assumed that they were a wet brake system. So does the brake drum connect to a shaft with a gear on the inside end that meshes with a gear on the drive axle. Then when the brakes are applied its the gearing that gives you braking?
So there must be a seal on the shaft to the brake drum?
I have the repair manual and havent looked at it yet.....just trying to understand how the brakes work first.

The brake drum shaft goes into your ring gear carrier #20 below. The splines on that shaft drive the bull gear #25 which drives the rear axle. The brake drum shaft is sealed by a seal #19 & collar #23 . Clink the link below then on the NUMBER of the part you need.

There is probably a plug in the bottom of the brake housing to drain any accumulated fluid. You may be able to just drain it and see if it takes another 30 years to fill again.

Yeah......I still have to take a closer look at it. I will plan on doing it later this spring.....Have the garage tied up right now with other work.
