Look for a case 1370/2390/2394. For a bit more hp 1570/2590/94. They only have 1000 rpm pto tho. You can get an 1170 or 2290 and easily run them at 150+ hp and have 540 pto.

Be very careful with the Cases. We have only had two and they were both major money pits. Brake lining fibers got into the hydraulics and wiped out everything behind the engine. I personally won't touch one regardless of price. Just my two cents worth.

I agree with 1370 and up Case, with good hydraulic oil. When Case bought IH out in '84, somehow the big Cases ending up being the orphans and lost a lot of value, so IMHO they became undervalued.

Tenneco bought Case out in 1967, then David Brown in 1973 and finally IH in 1984. So no, Case did not buy IH out, Tenneco did. Case was already an orphan by the time of the IH failure. Farmers said Case meant "Couldn't Afford Something Else".

I happen to like the 70 series Case tractors. Nice tractor to operate.

Like Dave said,what's cheap? Do you want 540 and 1000 PTO? White 2-150 is kind of a problem child if you ever have to rebuild the engine. Engine parts are scarce. Beast of a tractor otherwise. The 2-155 would be a lot better choice,but only has 1000 rpm PTO. 2-135 is 137 horse,same basic tractor as the 2-155 but has dual speed PTO. A few less horses.

Best cheap power is an IH-3588 or IH-3788. You can easily get 180-200 hp if you want to shorten the life of your T/A, clutch or rear end. I have an 80 IH-3588 with the 466 engine and with the 18.4x38s at all the axles you can get the power to the ground easily. Tractor is great with heavy tillage and it will never skid in turns and I hardly ever used the brakes. The only thing I've done to my tractor is replace the clutch which I knew was bad when I bought it. IH-3588's are loved, hated, and misunderstood for sure. I prefer using my JD 4450 for most of my haying operations but the Snoopy was great in the heavy tillage arena. Check out some of the big Allis Chalmers, Massey's, Ford's and Case tractor...tend to be the cheapest of the bunch. JMHO

I have never owned a 2+2 but you sure used to see a lot sitting for a long time on dealer's lots. They got a bad rap for high failure rate at the articulation joint. It should work nicely on long straight level ground. A friend bought one some twenty years ago just because the dealer let it go so cheap. He never used it, and recently died. I am sure that it is available for very short money.
