1510 D

The front stub axle on my 1510 D pulled through the bearing preload nut. The threads do not seem to be stripped, but obviously they are not tight either. Diagram on the parts for 1510 D Front knuckle Interior. The threads on the stub axle seem to be worse than the threads in the nut. I understand that the proper way to repair this would be to replace both parts, but since that is not a real option what else might you recommend?

Never worked on a 1510 but just looking at the parts drawings here it would seem a double spring pin goes through the bevel gear to hold it on the stub axle. I am just trying to figure out how the axle could pull through the locknut unless those pins were sheared?? Not saying it can't, just trying to figure it out looking at the drawings. I am somewhat baffled by it too. The spring pins were still in place. The best picture that I could get was the nut rocked back and forth on the very loose threads to work itself off. I think that I am going to try putting some good thread lock/sealing compound and try that. And check it from time to time for end play.

What type of nut is that? I don't see a locking washer on the parts list.

It does not have the traditional "nut shape" of 6 sides, but it has internal threads and a "castellated" top into which the spring roll pin fits to hold it It is #26, as you indicated.

I bought some loctite 826, (I think) and will try that today--it takes 72 hours for full strength so I will put it together and then wait a couple of days to put it all back in.

Hope it works for you. I am thinking you have a loader on your tractor, is that correct?

Actually I do not have a loader. I have thought about one, and have drawn one up, but never made it. Maybe someday. But that would just put that much more load on the front hubs. They are constructed a lot lighter (IMO) than the 186D or the 1610D, which are similar.

As I see it, for nut 26 to pull off shaft 14 with pins 24 and 25 in place would require some sort of magic.

Even though the threads on the stub axle look pretty good the points are rolled over. The threads were not a tight fit at all. I am still debating how I can fix this permanently.

Wrong nut. Go, with stub axle in hand, to a distributor and get the correct size nut. Still say it's impossible for axle to pull off nut and leave pins in position and intact.
