1520 sheet metal

I was wondering if anyone knew where to find a side battery cover for a 1520? I can find the top door easily new or used, but the side panels not so much. I need the top battery door and "drivers side" side panel. Yes I have done different google searches and have came up empty. So, this also poses another question, what other JD models used the same battery side panels?

According to JD parts the LH battery cover(AT28444) fits 10 models shown in photo below.

JD parts shows 20 models that utilize same battery access door(AT28782). A partial list is shown below.

I think that the panels that fit a 2020 will work even though it is a different part number. When I just did some research the dash assembly (which the panels bolt to) is the same on the 2020,1520,2440 and other tractors. So I think the T22210,T22209 or the L29050,29049 panels would fit a 1520. I listed the part numbers for both right and left. I always thought the all the taller panels interchanged like 1520,2020,2030,2440,2640. If you get one from Ebay and it does not fit your only loss would be shipping if it does not. Tom

I didn't realize until checking JD parts that 1520 & other same era utility sheet metal was different part #s.

It's odd the instrument panel(AR64369) fits 7 other models as shown in photo below.

I am thinking the difference is the 1520 is a three cylinder and that the hood sides do not come down as far as what the 2020 and others with the 4 cylinder engine do. So Deere has the crease in the rear panels where the decal goes on the 30 and 40 series and I bet it would be the wrong place on the 1520. It would work fine. I have both a 1520 and a 2630 here right now so when this snow goes away I will try and do a little comparing. Tom

That would be great if you could compare those two panels. There seems to be quite a difference in availability and price. I dont mind if the crease is slightly different. Thanks to all of you for the information!

Also, if the 2020 part fits well enough I can buy them thru this website. For whatever reason the battery side cover is not listed for a 1520 or any of the other models that shared the same part #.

I did some rough measurements and they appear the same. I did not take time to unbolt and switch them around yet. I might get to that next week. Tom

Thank you for doing that. That sure helps me alot. If you get around to unbolting and checking the fit that would be great. I may end up just buying the part anyways if it's a close fit and only requires slight modifications. Thank you again!

So, I went ahead and ordered that sheet metal today. I will post an update in a week or so about how it fits or if it needs any modifications. If anything it will be good to have the info out there on the interwebs for others to read if they have a need for these parts.

It's been awhile, but I said I'd report back once I tried this sheet metal. Neither of the two pieces (battery top cover, side cover) fit right. The side cover I had to weld on extra material as it was a bit too short in length. The top cover was not wide enough so I cut and welded in an extra 3/8" of material. Most of the side cover bolt holes needed modifications too. The top cover hinge pin location was quite a bit off as well. I made em work since I spent the money on them. If you are in the same situation, try to find the right sheet metal if possible! In the end mine looks good, but it took some doing to do so.
