1550 power steering center cap

Hi guys. My 1550 has power steering with the telescoping wheel. The chrome knob for locking the telescope in place has about a 2-3/4 opening. All of the emblems I can find
online say for 2-11/16 opening. I bought the o-ring that the parts book references, it's way too small. The parts book has 156515A for the knob, which mine has cast right into it,
so I know its the right knob. What am I missing here? Are there different center caps? Does it just fit kinda loose?

There's only one size as far as I know. The original o ring was quite thick, filled the entire groove. I bought a used one from Dale T at the national summer show for my 1600. I pulled a big o ring out of my assortment, it was quite thin, but it went right in and stayed. Could the cold have anything to do with it I wonder? It was about 90 degrees when I put mine in.

I had another thought. If you can't find a thick enough o ring, can you find a piece of small rubber tubing that'll fit the groove, then cut it the right length so the ends just meet, then wrap that around in the groove and use it for an o ring?

2-11/16 is only 1/16 smaller than 2-3/4. Thats only 1/32nd a side. Youre not talking precision machined parts here. They werent going to make the center cap on size because then it would be press fit and the bore of the knob is not machined so a 2-3/4 center cap would never fit. Of course the O-Ring is smaller until it is put in the groove on the center cap then it will be the right size.
