1550 steering motor trouble. Does anyone know who rebuilds or has an exchange service that is reliable. The problem is the common having to continually turn the steering wheel to continue on a straight course. Thanks

There are no repairs for that Saginaw unit. All you can do is find a used one. Some combines used that same unit. That'll widen your search. You just have to use your shaft and column on one. I believe the Masseys, like a 300,410,510 used them, along with the New Idea Uni and Oliver combines.

Does the steering wheel keep turning when it hits the stop in either direction and you try to keep turning it? It will give some but should have a lot of resistance. Those Saginaw pumps were used on Fords and are probably pretty common. Maybe a line leaking on one side of the system that lets it drift. I've heard here that those pumps are obsolete. Don't know if parts are available. A good hydraulic shop should be able to help.

I recently looked into replacing one of these Saginaw units for a friends Oliver. Sources we found were Tractor Parts ASAP -- $550 used/working. Maibach Tractor (Ohio) -- $300 used, no guarantee that it works and money not refundable. Maibach used to have a machinist who rebulit them, he retired. They could do a Charr-Lynn conversion for about $1000, includes different steering column, etc.

You might also try Justin Meyer 651-380-3892 (MN), he has 1550 parts tractors now and then, and has a inventory of good used parts.

Thanks to all. I guess we are going to try a used char-lynne unit. You loose the tele but I guess that is ok. The tilt is more important.
