my 1586 started running hot while discing.Pulled to shop checked coolant in radiator. when took cap off not much pressure. Thought bad t-stat so changed it. still not better. any one changed the waterpump if did is it a consuming job or easy. any ways to tell if it is bad? Jim

Not a hard job if the waterpump is bad. Look to see if it is leaking out the bottom weep hole or if the fan blade feels loose. That is about all that goes wrong with that waterpump. Be sure to check your oil and be sure it does not look milkey. Does your tractor have a water filter kit on it? Has it been changed regularly? These engines have a reputation to pitt the liners if the coolant has not been cared for. It sounds like this could be your problem. It will take an overhaul kit to fix it than and hope the block has not pitted.

Is the fan belt slipping? Does it show signs of glazing? Maybe thermostat is bad. If it is stuck open, or not opening all the way, can cause overheating. If stuck open it causes overheating by allowing coolant to flow too fast through the radiator not having enough time to remove heat from the coolant. Is the injection pump overfueling, causing you to work the tractor harder than the radiator can remove heat? Hope you can figure it out. 1586 is a nice tractor. Wayne
