1600 High Speed Transmission

I am interested in finding a set of high speed gears for my 1600. If I understand correctly there are just a few gears in the transmission that need to be changed. I have found a complete high speed transmission and differential from a 1650 (which i believe to be the same?) but am just checking for other options. Does anybody have a set of gears that they saved out of a transmission? Any thoughts on what a fair price might be for these parts or how rare they are?

    I assume you want to be the fastest on your tractor rides!  Since no one else answered your inquiry I'll attempt to answer.
    First the 1600 was built in three basic configurations, Row Crop, Industrial and Utility.  The Row Crop had a larger loaded radius rear wheel snd tire as compared to the other two models. &nbsp Speed passed through the transmission with much less reduction in the non Row Crop transmission, however the pinion/ring gear ratio is much deeper (4.88-1 Row Crop vs 5.87-1) in the non Row Crop.  The factory simply used the Utility powertrain with the larger load radius wheels and tires for the high speed Row Crop.

    To change the 1600 transmission to hight speed you will need one gear for the input shaft, two gears for the counter shaft and one gear for the pinion shaft and the shift pattern chanes, gears that were in the top of the pattern will now be on the bottom.  To change these parts you will have to completely strip the tractor down to a bare transmission/final drive housing without axle housings or without an engine.

    If you change the gears mentioned above and pinion/ring gear you will go from 13.4 MPH to 21.1 MPH in 6th gear at rated RPM.  Should you not change the pinion/ring gear you will have 26.6 MPH.  Now change the Hydra-power to a three speed and you will not be able to keep your hat on.
    In the image above you will change gear #26 on the input shaft from a 19 to 26 tooth gear.  Gear #62 from a 41 to 28 tooth and gear #49 from 35 to 37 tooth.  Pinion shaft gear #86 from 27 to 23 tooth gear.

    The above gears will not be easy to find.  The complete 1650 transmission/final drive is your best deal.  Most of the gears are the same part numbers.  The last three digits of the six on the serial number plate lower line on a 1650 high speed are 456.  Remember that there was a small run of 1650 tractors with the early high speed trans with the three speeds that would go ovr 30 MPH.  The next build had a different pinion/ring gear to slow them down.

    Sorry for the long post.  I have had a lot of questions on this.  How do I know about the change, I did one without changeing the pinion/ring gear and can't keep my hat on wide open in 6th!

Thank you very much b a star. That is exactly the type of information I was looking for. This tractor is actually still a worker and does a bit of traveling moving round bales. I will have the tractor stripped down almost that far for some work I need to do on it so no time like the present. Thanks again for your very detailed post.
