1600 starter

Does anyplace sell the starter piece that sticks in toward the flywheel? Mine broke off yesturday and the moter and drive seems fine. Don't have any more old ones to rob.

It's a Delco isn't it? Should be able to get one from local starter rebuild shop.

I think they can get them ,but it takes 2 trips over there to get stuff.I have welded them in the past, but this tractor gets used so much i would like a new one.

I just found out today my starter is trash, ordered a new one from Maibach tractor in Ohio, give me your email and then we can talk, I will send you the piece off of mine just maybe a few bucks for shipping, you have a pic you can send me of the part you need.

Thanks for the offer, but got worried looking at it today and took it to the rebuilder. It appears they rebuilt it 3 years ago and put a new piece in then.It was definatly a new part that broke.Put the 1800 starter in the 1600 too.The 1600,1800,1650 and 1555 starters will all fit.This is the 4th starter to break in the same place amoung all the 4 digit tractors i been useing since the 70's.

I have to also put in a plug for Wilson starters. About 10 years ago I helped maintain a fleet of about 30 forklifts. We were using starters from a national auto chain. The return and failure rate was TERRIBLE. Some of them were lasting less than a week.
I switched over to Wilson 100% and the failure rate went to almost zero.
However, whenever I recommend Wilson to anybody, I just get a blank stare.
Around here, a NAPA store could get them.
