Me again, I got about the same problem as Tom Miller, must be a Miller thing. I dumped LOTS of warter from my 165 today. Found the filter, hope to get it cleaned this weekend. Is there anything else I need to look at before trying new fluid? Also what type and how much hydralic do I need? Thanks Everyone

For MF 165 hydraulic fluid use 8-gals of Permantran 821 from MF/Agco. Add about 7 1/2 and then start checking dip stick and slowly topping off. May take a bit less than 8-gallons sometimes. Top cup of filter is tied with a wire to back pump plate. Cut wire to remove and make sure you put another wire back on -- keeps filter in place if it loosens up. This is the only hard part - getting the wire off and on. I use a pair of long nose Walleye or Pike fish hook pliers -- works great and already in my tackle box! Regular needle nose pliers too short. Now unscrew filter. You may be able to clean filter with clean diesel or other solvent and not need a new one. I also put my hand down inside with a nitrile glove on, and push all the small metal bits and grunge on bottoms out to the drains holes. When you put PTO handle back on finger tighten bolts first and check to make sure PTO handle is on correctly. You can do this by hand turning PTO at "neutral" handle position. If OK put handle in "Ground" or "Engine" position and try hand turning PTO -- should have resistance. Put back in "neutral" and check again. Hope this helps, assumed you have a regular 2 stage non IPTO 165. Good Luck.
