I just did a tune pu on my 1650. The tractor runs great except when under a heavy load. It would backfire and loose power. I had to plow in 1st gear. It has a marvel carb. Any thoughts if its the govenor and where I can get one?

It is not the governor. Your carburetor is either not getting sufficient fuel to it, or the carburetor main load adjustment needle is set too lean. Find that adjustment on your carburetor, and turn it out one turn, (or in, I can't remember on a Marvel).

Sorry to have to use this post to ask: WHY can't I start a new post?? I can only reply to a post. When I click on Preview, it always goes to the forum. Reply works as normal, like here. My home computer and the library computer do the same thing. Any answers?

Hello Slowpoke,
What happens when you try to post?
A good place to try is the test forum.
You can also ask Chris at yt support, i'm sure he will help you.

Guido.

You might check the advance weights under the point plate. Can't say my problem was the same as yours but I had to plow in first gear one spring. Or try to plow only with my 1850. I had the carburetor apart so many times that I thought I was going to ware the threads out on the screws. The distributor on my 1650 was the same as the 1850 so I decided to try that after more days of fooling with the carburetor than I would want to admit. With the 1650 distributor it ran like a top and pulled the plow better than it had in some time. Took the 1850 distributor apart and found the weights stuck. Cleaned every thing up so it would move freely and put it back in the 1850 and that did the trick. I had pulled the distributor out to check if the bearings seemed loose and they didn't. Never thought of the advance being stuck. For what it is worth that was my problem.

Thanks for the replies. I just got a manual and it shows how to adjust under high speed load and idle mixture. I will give it a shot, I just did'nt think it was the carb because it would run so good.

I cannot post a new message. I complete the form and when I click on "Preview" it goes back to the forum instead of the preview screen. It makes no difference if at home or the public library. It works OK if I reply to another's post; the preview screen comes up and I can then send the reply to the forum. But I can't get any new message to the preview screen.

Guido, I have discovered that a certain word - "Java$cript", which I included in numerous 'failed to post' messages, will NOT be accepted by the YT site for whatever reason. Unless it's broken up someway like Java script, J avascript, Java$script, Java*script, etc.
See a later successful post about the problem.

Hello slowpoke,
I just saw your post.
Here is what you do.
Go to the tab another forum at the bottom of the options look for site comments.
Post there for YT support. Chris or Lisa will help you. Just read some of the posts there and you'll see what i mean.
Let me know how you make out.
Sometimes the wording makes a difference.
They will know whats blocking you out.
Guido.

I have found the answer by breaking up the post into small parts and trying to get it accepted. I learned that when the word Java-script is in the sentence, the word is seen by YT site's computer as being malware. The word has to be changed by adding something to it to be accepted. Like a hyphen, extra letter, or maybe even removing a letter. See earlier posts that explain it better.
