1650 killing after 20 seconds

Just got done painting my 1650, looks beautiful but after getting it all together it will start and run great... for about 20 seconds then it dies. i had the tank off so it is possible that some junk got stirred around and is now in the carb. my question is, is it possible the float is stuck or something? i know my lines are clean, i have a steady flow into the carb. once it dies it will not start right away but after letting it set for a while it will start and run again for about the same amount of time. I hate to take the carb off right now as i have fresh paint and the gas will lift , but i might not have a choice. any ideas? is it possible to have a vaccum issue that would do this?

nothing sexier than fresh paint

yes, it just seems like the float isn"t filling like it should, once it goes empty it dies and after a while of filling it will run again for a short while, not sure if that is what is really happening but that is what it seems like

Are you getting a good, steady stream of gas from the tank, when you disconnect the fuel line from the carburetor? Also, there is probably a metal mesh filter at the fuel inlet on the carb- check that. Otherwise, if bowl isn't filling, about the only thing left is the needle valve hanging up, or some crud in the seat. Would need to take the carb apart.
